The 2020 Ford Edge and Jeep Renegade have so much in common that you might initially struggle to choose between them. Luckily, our comparison guide is here to compare specific numbers and features of these sporty crossovers.
Best Standard Lineup
Best Standard Lineup: 2020 Ford Edge
The Edge gives you the best bang for your buck, especially in terms of infotainment features. The entry-level model is stocked with tech goodies, including complete smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system is standard, including an 8-inch touchscreen, dual USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. And this crossover does more than keep you connected, with standard safety features that include lane keeping assist and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking.
The entry-level Renegade Sport doesn’t come standard with quite as many goodies. This little Jeep crossover does treat passengers to a standard USB port and 5-inch touchscreen. But if you want Jeep’s Uconnect infotainment system – which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a bigger touchscreen – it’ll cost you extra.
Sporty Power
Sporty Power: 2020 Ford Edge
The Ford Edge gives you more in both power and performance. Most models come standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is ready for action with 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. But the Edge ST is even snappier, thanks to a twin-turbocharged V6 that pumps out 335 horses and 380 pound-feet of torque. Ford’s midsize crossover is also the best bet for towing heavy toys. Properly equipped, the Edge can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
The Renegade isn’t quite as quick on its feet. But it does put its base 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine to good use, giving you 180 horses and 175 pound-feet of torque to get up to speed. The trail-ready Renegade Trailhawk model is big on torque; its turbo 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine makes 177 horses and 210 pound-feet of torque. This Jeep tows up to 2,000 pounds, which will easily pull a Jet Ski or four-wheeler around town.
Everyday Fuel Economy
Everyday Fuel Economy: 2020 Jeep Renegade
As the smaller crossover, the Renegade is also the thriftier model. Depending on equipment, this sporty little Jeep earns up to 27 mpg combined. That’s good news for anyone who does a lot of driving.
The midsize Edge is also skilled at combining power with fuel economy, earning up to 24 mpg combined. It might put power first, but the Edge also keeps your fuel budget in check.
Most in Comfort: 2020 Ford Edge
Once again, the 2020 Ford Edge has won us over. In addition to offering one of the roomiest cabins in the segment, this midsize crossover delivers cushy padding and all the latest luxuries, including optional leather upholstery and heated seats. We’re also big fans of the smooth, quiet ride, which lets you maintain whisper-level conversations, even on the highway.
Since the 2020 Renegade is a subcompact crossover, it can’t help but be smaller than the midsize Edge. Therefore, it’s not quite as roomy. Indeed, the backseat can feel especially tight. However, the Renegade does have a few luxuries up its sleeve, such as optional leather upholstery and keyless ignition.
As crossovers go, the Jeep Renegade isn’t bad at all. But the 2020 Ford Edge is the sportier model, with more power, greater towing capabilities, and a roomy, modern cabin you can’t help but love.
