With so much in common, the 2020 Ford Edge and Subaru Crosstrek make it difficult to choose just one. Luckily, Lunghamer Ford’s comparison guide is here to help you take a closer look at each of these sporty crossover SUVs.
On-Road Comfort and Connectivity: 2020 Ford Edge
As a midsize crossover, the Edge is friendlier to families than the compact Crosstrek. Inside, this Ford comfortably seats five passengers with head, elbow, and legroom to spare. We’re also big fans of its infotainment lineup, which includes standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.
Although the Subaru Crosstrek cabin is decidedly smaller, it makes good use of its available space and provides plenty of seating comfort. It, too, comes standard with coveted infotainment features, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. However, if you’re looking for more space for your favorite passengers, the Edge leads the way.
Standard Safety: 2020 Ford Edge
For a crossover that actively helps you avoid danger, choose the Edge. Every model in the lineup comes standard with a long list of safety aids, including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
The Subaru Crosstrek offers a similar array of safety features. However, they aren’t standard equipment. And that means that if you want advanced safety aids on your Crosstrek, you’re going to have to pay extra for them.
Punchy Power: 2020 Ford Edge
With its two powerful engine options, the Edge is the best choice for driving enthusiasts. Most models feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque—more than enough output to send you speeding into highway traffic with the best of them. If you want an even speedier ride, check out the Edge ST, a performance-based model whose twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 spits out 335 horses and 380 pound-feet of torque.
The Subaru Crosstrek isn’t quite as powerful. Also, every Crosstrek trim model comes with the same powertrain, with no available engine upgrade. However, the Crosstrek does a good job of keeping up with traffic, courtesy of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 152 horses and 180 pound-feet of torque.
All-Weather Performance: 2020 Subaru Crosstrek
If you’re familiar with Subaru vehicles, you’ve probably already guessed that the Crosstrek comes standard with all-wheel drive. The extra traction you get from this performance gear comes in handy during an icy Michigan winter. Of course, the new Edge also offers all-wheel drive on any trim level. You just have to pay a little extra to get it.
Outside of its standard all-weather performance, the Crosstrek is second to the 2020 Ford Edge in all the ways that matter. To see what we mean, visit us at Lunghamer Auto Group and test-drive Ford’s midsize crossover today!
