For three-row comfort and sporting performance, it's tough to beat full-size SUVs like the 2020 Ford Expedition and Toyota Sequoia. Since both of these models have so much to offer, you might need a little help figuring out which is right for you. Read Lunghamer Ford’s comparison guide to learn more!
High-Quality Comfort: 2020 Ford Expedition
For three rows of roomy comfort and supportive seating contours, choose the Expedition. Big families who spend a lot of time on the road never tire of this cushy cabin. Ford’s SUV is also pretty luxurious, with three of four trim levels supplying leather seating and premium interior features like ambient interior lighting and power-adjustable pedals.
The Toyota Sequoia is a close competitor, with plenty of cabin space for your big family outings. Ride quality is also excellent. This SUV smoothes out bumps in the road and keeps wind and road noise from intruding on your conversations. However, the front seats could use a few extra adjustments to help every driver get comfy behind the wheel. Also, when the rear-seat vents are blasting, the front air-conditioning vents feel a little weak.
Tech Toys: It’s a Tie!
When you’re shopping for a family-friendly SUV, you’re going to need one that’s stocked with all the latest tech gadgets. Luckily, the 2020 Ford Expedition and Toyota Sequoia both have a lot going for them in this department.
To start, these SUVs come standard with all the infotainment gear you could want, including user-friendly touch-screen interfaces and all-encompassing smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hands-free access to your smartphones will come in handy, especially when you’re cruising a jam-packed highway with four unruly kids in the backseats.
Streetwise safety features are also big on these SUVs’ agendas. Both models treat you to extra peace of mind, with protective tech gear like automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring on every trim level.
Family-Friendly Adventure: 2020 Ford Expedition
If you’re looking for an SUV that can handle itself in off-road terrain and tow all your favorite toys into the wilderness, put the Expedition at the top of your wish list. With more power on tap than the Sequoia, the Expedition tows up to 9,300 pounds. And the Expedition’s extra power comes in handy on your favorite off-road trails, especially when paired with optional four-wheel drive.
The Sequoia also offers four-wheel drive. It’s not quite as powerful as the Expedition, but its standard V8 engine comes in handy in off-road territory. Unfortunately, though, the Sequoia doesn’t tow as big a camper or horse trailer, with max tow ratings of 7,400 pounds.
Thriftiest Ride: 2020 Ford Expedition
Not only is the Expedition the more capable full-size SUV, but it actually saves you money at the pump, too. Depending on powertrain and equipment, the 2020 Expedition earns up to 19 mpg combined (17 city/23 highway mpg).
The Sequoia lags behind in this regard. With rear-wheel drive, Toyota’s SUV earns 15 mpg combined (13/17 mpg). The 2020 Toyota Sequoia is pretty cool, but the 2020 Ford Expedition outdoes it—and so many other segment competitors—with its rugged performance, rich cabin comfort, and even its fuel efficiency.
