Which gives you the most in cabin comfort and rugged performance, the 2022 Ford Expedition or Jeep Wagoneer? Our comparison guide takes a closer look at these powerful full-size SUVs.
Best Price: 2022 Ford Expedition
Want to save a bundle on a new SUV? Doing so is as simple as choosing the 2022 Expedition. Ford’s full-size SUV starts at $53,375. This price can go up if you decide to go with a higher trim model or add a few optional features, however.
The entry-level Jeep Wagoneer starts at $58,995, costing you quite a bit more than the Expedition. And that price only rises as you move up its three trim levels.
Rich Interior Comfort: It’s a Tie!
Inside these SUVs, you’ll find three roomy rows of seating that accommodate up to eight passengers. Both models offer widespread support, so the whole family can enjoy long drives. And these SUVs are also known for their smooth-riding, quiet cabins.
With its higher price, the Wagoneer actually does come standard with more luxury features, including leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, and heated and ventilated front seats. Move up the trim levels, and you’ll also enjoy heated second-row seats and a wireless smartphone charging pad. However, you can find all of these features available on the Expedition, as long as you’re willing to move up from the base MSRP.
Tow the Biggest Boat: 2022 Jeep Wagoneer
With its standard 5.7-liter V8 engine (392 horsepower, 404 lb-ft of torque), the Wagoneer was built for towing major weight. Max tow ratings reach 10,000 pounds, a very good figure for this segment. If you’ve been eyeing a camper or extra-large boat, the Wagoneer just might be the SUV for you.
Of course, the 2022 Ford Expedition is no stranger to towing big toys. Properly equipped, the Expedition uses its turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 (375 hp, 470 lb-ft) to tow up to 9,300 pounds. Unlike the Wagoneer, the Expedition also offers a couple of high-output versions of this engine, ultimately delivering up to 440 horses and 480 lb-ft of torque.
Maximum Efficiency: 2022 Ford Expedition
When you do a lot of driving, fuel mileage can add up. The Expedition gives you slightly better EPA ratings, earning up to 19 mpg combined (17 city/23 highway). But the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer is only slightly less efficient, with up to 18 mpg combined (16/22 mpg).
Your New SUV
Although the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer is able to tow a slightly bigger camper, the 2022 Ford Expedition ultimately gives you the most bang for your buck, with the potential for more power, maximum efficiency, and lots of rich interior comfort and tech features.
