The redesigned 2023 Ford Super Duty is just around the corner, and we have every reason to expect big things from this heavy-duty truck. Without an official announcement from Ford, however, we don’t know much. But our preview guide is here to reveal what we know so far!
Will the 2023 Ford Super Duty be fully redesigned?
So far, it looks like Ford will release redesigned versions of its Super Duty trucks for the 2023 model year. However, Ford hasn’t made any announcements about its upcoming heavy-duty truck, so much of what we know comes from spy shots.
For instance, the new Super Duty XL or XLT models have been spotted with much bigger headlamps than before. And higher trim models have been seen making test-runs with flashy new grilles and LED headlamps. Even the interior has been spotted; we think the entry-level Super Duty trim models will include the SYNC 4 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen. Higher trim models will likely be available with larger touchscreen interfaces.
Which engines will be available for the 2023 Ford Super duty?
Again, since Ford is keeping the new Super Duty specs completely under wraps, we can’t tell you much about which engines will be available. However, we do expect to find both gas-powered and diesel V8 engine options on the roster, which will allow drivers to choose whether they want to prioritize towing or hauling.
Last year’s Ford Super Duty trucks offered three sturdy powertrains:
- 6.2-liter gas-powered V8 (385 horsepower, 430 pound-feet of torque) + six-speed automatic transmission
- 7.3L gas V8 (430 hp, 475 lb-ft) + 10-speed automatic transmission
- 6.7L turbocharged diesel V8 (475 hp, 1,050 lb-ft) + 10-speed automatic transmission
Which 2023 Ford Super Duty is right for me?
The right heavy-duty truck for you is the one that meets your needs but doesn’t necessarily exceed them. By purchasing too much heavy-duty truck, you may end up spending more on both up-front costs and fuel than strictly necessary.
For example, last year’s F-150 could tow up to 20,000 pounds’ worth of conventional trailer, depending on body style and equipment. When it’s set up for gooseneck or fifth-wheel towing, the 2022 F-250 can tow up to 22,800 pounds. Max payloads reach 4,260 pounds.
If those figures still don’t suit your needs, then you should move up to the F-350. Its conventional tow ratings reach 21,200 pounds, with gooseneck tow ratings of up to 35,700 pounds. The F-350 also happens to be able to haul the most weight, because it’s available with more body styles than the heftier F-450, providing max payloads of 7,850 pounds.
Finally, for drivers who need to tow a seriously big trailer, there’s the F-450. While we’re still waiting to hear more on the 2023 Super Duty, we can tell you that last year’s F-450 can tow up to 24,400 pounds of conventional trailer and 37,000 pounds of gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailer. Max payloads reach 6,210 pounds.
