Our used Ford Bronco buying guide takes a look at everything this off-road-ready SUV has to offer. From their iconic exterior style, complete with a convertible roof, to their rugged, trail-ready capabilities, used Broncos can take you on the ultimate adventure.
Sixth Generation: 2021-Current Model Year
Compared to previous Broncos, the sixth generation models represented an all-new, off-road-ready midsize SUV. When you’re shopping the used market, you’ll find two body styles: two-door and four-door. And there are six trim models available: Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, and Wildtrak.
Each Bronco was meant for off-road adventure, with standard four-wheel drive, LED headlights, a convertible roof, and removable doors. And these SUVs are also driver-friendly, with tech features designed to help you traverse rugged terrain, including hill start assist and hill descent control. The Trail Turn Assist system — available with the automatic transmission only — helps each Bronco make tight turns on the trail.
Some Broncos are a little more luxurious than others. For example, the Big Bend sports a leather-wrapped steering wheel and tinted second-row and rear windows. The Outer Banks model has upgraded LED headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated front seats. The Wildtrak is a more capable version of the Outer Banks.
The standard Bronco engine is powerful enough to take on any trail, and it’s the only engine option available with a manual transmission:
- Turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine (300 horsepower, 325 lb-ft of torque)
- Seven-speed manual transmission
- Optional 10-speed automatic transmission
- Four-wheel drive
But upgrading to the turbocharged V6 engine gives you even more power. However, this engine is only available with the automatic transmission:
- Turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 (330 hp, 415 lb-ft)
- 10-speed automatic transmission
- Four-wheel drive
If you’re looking for an especially capable used Ford Bronco, look for one with the Sasquatch package. It equips your SUV with 35-inch mud-terrain tires, a lifted suspension, and a shorter final drive ratio with electronically locking front and rear axles.
So far, there haven’t been many changes to the sixth-generation Bronco lineup. However, for the 2022 model year, two new trim models debuted. The first, the Bronco Everglades, was built for swamp pedaling, giving you the means to drive through up to 3 feet of water. Standard features include an air snorkel, heavy-duty front bumper, and winch by Warn.
The second new model that appeared for the 2022 model year, the Bronco Raptor, comes standard with the Sasquatch package and a range of high-performance off-roading features, including a powerful turbocharged engine, Fox shock absorbers, and an active exhaust. Its exclusive turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 (418 horsepower, 440 lb-ft of torque) is more powerful than the other Bronco engines.
